Besos de la Muerte (Kisses of Death) : Photographs By Rubén C. Córdova at Texas A&M University in San Antonio [239]




Besos de la Muerte (Kisses of Death) an exhibition of photographs from Mexico City by ABAD artist Rubén C. Córdova opened on 30 October and runs through  Feb. 1, 2015 at Texas A&M University in San Antonio, Texas. 

The exhibition features large and small scale photographs, both color and black-and-white, taken during Day of the Dead in and around Mexico City from 2001 to 2013.  The photographer and author will give a lecture at the gallery at 3:00 pm on November 15, 2014. All are welcome.

Córdova participated in several ABAD exhibitions including the most recent show at the Royal Cambrian Academy of Art, Wales, and the New South Wales, Australia as well as the Treviso, Italy show, and several exhibitions in the US.   

Rubén C. Córdova is an art historian, curator, and photographer. He holds a BA from Brown University and a PhD from UC Berkeley. He has taught at UC Berkeley, UT Pan American, UT San Antonio, Sarah Lawrence College, and the University of Houston. 

Córdova has written or contributed to 11 books and catalogs, as well as encyclopedia entries and journal articles. He has curated 18 exhibitions, including shows dedicated to Day of the Dead and he served as an advisor and on-air interviewee for the Travel Channel program on Day of the Dead in Mexico that first aired in 2007. 

Córdova travels widely and has taken 250,000 pictures in the last 5 years. His work has been featured in 38 exhibitions. Many of the photographs in this exhibition will be included in a book he is writing about Day of the Dead.  He is also the author of Con Safo: The Chicano Art Group and the Politics of South Texas.  Los Angeles: UCLA Chicano Studies Research Center Press, 2009, as well as Arte Caliente: Selections from the Joe A.
